Major responsibilities:
·         Receiving visitors to the office and deal with their requirements.
·         Maintain a record of all visitors and purpose for their visits.
·         Maintain and operate quality and efficient communication services through a telephone switchboard and fax machine.
·         Record personal telephone calls and personal fax messages and submit monthly report to the project coordinator.
·         Assistin booking transport requests air tickets and other travel arrangements as requested.
·         Coordinating internal meeting venues.
·         Ensure the effective and efficient use of office equipment/ machines in order to keep costs low.
·         Making bookings of external meeting facilities as/and when necessary.
·         Making sure that the office, office kitchen is in clean & neat condition at all times.
·         Being responsible for the locking up of the main office door after work hours.
·         Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
·         Minimum U.A.C.E and Diploma in Secretarial Studies would be an added Advantage.
·         Training in Front Office Management.
·         Excellent Communication and interpersonal skills
·         Professional training in operating a telephone/ switchboard
·         Minimum one year experience as a Receptionist
·         Good experience in the efficient use of office equipment including fax machine, photocopier, scanner and digital cameras.
·         1 year experience working for Non-Government Organizations.
·         Good knowledge of computer applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel
·         Certificate of good conduct

Danish Refugee Council calls for applications from qualified candidates to fill the vacancy of:

Assistant Engineer - Livelihood Project
Duty Station:
This position is based in Moroto and will be operating in districts / areas in which Livelihood project is implemented. The job will require frequent travel within the Karamoja region.

General Role:
The Assistant Engineer will support the Engineer for the technical supervision of Livelihood activitiesin the assigned DRC/DDG Karamoja target areas in accordance with the DRC Code of Conduct and the DDG Community Safety Operational Guidelines.

Responsibility and Specific Tasks:
  • Identify and conduct technical field assessments for the implementation of project activities
  • Provide technical guidance for the implementation of Public Works, including soil conservation, water management and related agriculture engineering activities
  • Participate in the design of work plans and budgeting of identified sub-projects
  • Support the Engineer in developing engineering plans, technical specifications, and bill of quantities and assist DRC with tender processes
  • Ensure quality control of all works
  • Capacity building and technical guidance to Field Supervisors and Team Leaders on Livelihood activities
  • Deliver trainings to targeted beneficiaries on the implementation of income generating activities
  • Monitor and report DRC’s livelihood activities
  • Regular interaction and coordination with District Technical Officers in all stages
  • Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
  • Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specification
·         Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Agriculture Engineer or any other relevant field
·         At least one(1) year of work experience within an NGO in an equivalent position
·         Experience in the Livelihood sector
·         Organizational and reporting skills
·         A resident of Karamoja and speaking Karimojong languageis essential
·         Self motivated and ability to work with limited supervision and able to make informed decision.

·         The position is contract based
·         Commencement date: as soon as possible, initial contract length: 2 months
·         Remuneration and benefits are as per DRC/DDG Uganda Standard Salary Scale and Benefit packages
